Had to guide
It can be difficult to choose, especially your first yoga mat. In this post, we will give you an overview that will make your choice easier.
It is important to choose the right yoga mat and there are many factors that come into play. What type of yoga do you practice? Do you need to transport it to and from the studio? Do you use a yoga towel on top of the mat for hot yoga? And finally, the choice of your new yoga mat is personal in terms of grip, style, color, etc.

Must be on fire

At goyogi.dk you will find yoga mats and equipment from the manufacturers Manduka, GOYOGI, Jade and Moonchild. In our store we also sell yoga mats from lululemon. We have chosen to sell these yoga mats based on our own experience with use, durability and sustainability. There is a large selection of mats from many different manufacturers. These yoga mats are the result of a close collaboration between professional yoga instructors from all over the world and each yoga mat has its own unique benefits.

Which grip is best for me?
It is important to know when choosing your mat that it is not necessarily the same type of mat that is right for your friend or a third party as it is for you. It is because it is very different how we each experience what it means to be a mat with a good grip, and the right mat for your specific needs.

If you are in doubt, you are always welcome to try our test mats in the store.

If you sweat a lot, it may be a good idea to go for a mat with open cells.

Mat types
At goyogi.dk we sell yoga mats in two different materials. Either a natural rubber mat or a PVC yoga mat.

Natural rubber
The natural rubber yoga mats have a good grip right from the start and are particularly suitable if you sweat a little during your training. If you sweat a lot, you may need a towel on top of your yoga mat to protect the mat. The natural rubber mats are made of an open-cell material which directs sweat and moisture away from the surface so you don't slip on the yoga mat. On the other hand, they do not have as long a lifetime as the PVC mats.

At goyogi.dk, we sell natural rubber yoga mats from:
Manduka eKOlite - This one has closed cells though.
GOYOGI 's own natural rubber mats with the beautiful alignment print.
Jade Harmony and Elite.

In the GOYOGI store in Copenhagen, you will also find natural rubber yoga mats from Lululemon.

PVC
These mats have a grippy surface with closed cells. Closed cells mean that sweat and moisture lie on the surface. This helps to give this mat type a long durability. For example, Manduka's PRO mats have a lifetime guarantee. The Pro Yoga mat is recommended for practitioners who have dry or only slightly moist hands and feet during their practice, however it can be used for hot yoga with a towel on top that absorbs moisture/sweat.

Travel Mats
Do you also love to travel and can't do without training while you're away? Then our travel mats might be just the thing for you. Some of our yoga mats can even be folded to take up as little space as possible. There are different thicknesses of the mats. Travel mats can also be used on top of borrowed mats in the studio or fitness centre.

Thickness
The thickness of the mat you choose determines whether you have special preferences. Normally 4-5 mm thickness is used. Do you have e.g. injuries or undergone operations or if you need extra thickness for some reason, you can use the mats that are 6 mm, however, for some, this can make the balance more challenging, therefore the choice is up to you, what you attach the most importance to .

Yoga mats with good support - or for hot yoga
If optimal support for your joints is important to you, we recommend our Manduka PRO yoga mats . They are 6mm thick and give you the ultimate support during your training. This is also the yoga mat that is known as the world's best yoga mat - referred to by yoga instructors worldwide. The Manduka PRO yoga mat is available in lengths of 180cm and 216cm and in many beautiful colours. This yoga mat just gets better and better with time and has a lifetime guarantee.

This yoga mat is also perfect for those who practice hot yoga or bikram yoga where you use a towel on top of your yoga mat. The PVC mats in the PRO and PROlite series from Manduka are made of a closed-cell material so that sweat and moisture cannot drain into the yoga mat and it will therefore not be damaged by the harsh treatment during a hot yoga class.

If you want a lighter yoga mat for use in the studio, at home or when travelling, Manduka PROlite is the natural choice. This is a lighter version of the PRO mats, slightly narrower and thinner and weighs less than 2kg. A very versatile yoga mat with the same lifetime guarantee and good properties as its big brother.

How the surface breaks on Manduka PRO and PROLITE mats

The Manduka Pro and ProLite mats require some time before you break the surface of your mat. If you want a little help to break it faster, you can lay it flat on the floor at home and walk over it daily for a period, NOTE: only with bare toes or socks on (never with shoes on).
The better recommendation for yogis who experience slipping when their mat is new is to break in the mat through continuous practice and use a towel for extra grip. Overall, the PRO series is designed to get a better grip by practicing on the mat, as the mat will slowly wear and break in from the yogi's own flows.
