BLOSSOM PROJECT
The Blossom Project is a project with a focus on homeless and sex trafficking women. We focus on their needs through, among other things, hygiene bags. The project started in the USA (San Francisco), but now we have made a collaboration agreement with Reden in Copenhagen, Projekt UDENFOR and Café Klara.
We will distribute 50 toilet bags to Project UDENFOR, 50 bags to Cafe Klare and 100 bags to Reden International initially. The bags consist of tampons, pads, hand sanitizer, washcloths, a handwritten card and a single little pampering item.
The bags have proven to be used to create contact and trust with the women so that trust can be built and the women can receive other support and help. Through the bags, we also try to focus on dignity, care and hope.
Introduction:
Blossom-Project is a non profit organization founded in San Francisco, under a fiscal sponsorship MarinLinks. Blossom supports homelessness and poverty by helping homeless women in San Francisco by providing them with much needed hygiene products. Blossom-Projekt collaborates with Periamma in Denmark, which is a § 8A and tax-deductible organization
The need:
Denmark has more than 6,000 homeless people, and half of them are in the capital, Copenhagen. (2015 statistics). 22 percent are women, the homeless population in Denmark is very young and most are between 18 and 39 years old. The number of homeless people in Denmark is growing.
In Denmark, there is also trafficking in women. Human trafficking is the exploitation of some of the most vulnerable and weak people in the world. The phenomenon can be compared to modern slavery, where masterminds recruit, sell or receive people through coercion in order to exploit them for their own gain. Exploitation is typically through the sale of sexual services, forced labour, begging or organ donation.
What we are trying to achieve:
To provide women with basic supplies to better manage their menstrual cycle
To help Gadeplan staff to create contact and trust with the women.
To create respect, care and dignity for women who are homeless
Blossom-Project distributes 1,200 bags/year in San Francisco, distributed quarterly. Our mission is to improve the lives of homeless and women traders and to empower them to reclaim their lives, give them a voice, dignity and hope.
